Demeris has been a dream chaser all of his life. Having fulfilled his first two dreams, he is now embarking on a third. His first dream was to play football in the NFL. Demeris accomplished that by playing wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills. Once Demeris was done playing professional football, he possessed his second lifelong dream- to own his own business, building a very successful high-performance sports training business. His company developed some of today’s top male and female professional athletes and he is still being sought after by some of the greatest athletes and business executives of today as their performance coach (only training on a very selective basis).
Demeris eventually began to pursue his greatest dream, the one he considers his destiny dream. That dream is helping others become dream chasers and dream builders. Demeris has a unique gift set that enables him to inspire, motivate and instruct people into their personal destiny. He has received numerous honors, one of which includes the Citizen of the Year, from the Buffalo News, for his success in helping multiple youth and adults from the community overcome their current circumstance and go on to apprehend their dreams.
Who is Demeris Johnson?
While in the middle of living my first dream of being a professional football player, I had an experience with the presence of Holy Spirit that I can never forget. I was living the life of a bachelor with the status and means to do what I desired. I lived very selfishly and prideful. Shortly after going on a shopping spree for myself, I had what I call a ‘God moment’. This happened prior to my true conversion experience. I can remember coming home from the mall and unpacking my thousands of dollars’ worth of stuff in my condominium. After neatly positioning my electronic toys and designer clothing throughout my master bedroom, I had an overwhelming experience of emptiness in my soul. Then these words began to flow out of my mouth:
“Is this it, is this it? Is this what I have given my life for? To waste money on myself?
To live for me and be selfish and self-centered”?
After being pricked by these words for months, and having several traumatic events take place in my life that threatens my well being and playing career, I finally cried out to God with this question, “WHAT MUST I DO TO BECOME THE MAN YOU DESIRE FOR ME TO BE”?
It was then that I had my Holy Spirit encounter that caused me to realize that life is so much more than individual accomplishments and material possessions. I made the decision to dedicate my life to Seeking first the Kingdom of God and fulfilling my predestined (predetermined boundary) purpose. After that experience, several things changed:
- I began to live life with others in mind
- I began to look to another man’s wellbeing and not just my own
- Soon afterwards, I married my wife, Leslie
- I started a business serving athletes in need of performance enhancement
- I accepted a Pastoral leadership position
- I became the regional Director for United Youth Football League- preside over the premier inner-city youth football league serving over 2,000 youth
- I created youth empowerment programs
- I became the leading television host for a local Christian station
- I began hosting a weekly radio show focused on personal empowerment
- I trained to become a Giftset Analysis Specialist so I could help young men and women discover their God-given gifts and strategically position them to perfect those gifts, pursue their destiny, and overcome the yoke of poverty.
I have personally trained and impacted the lives of thousands of athletes as well as business professionals. I have aided in the lives of countless troubled teens, turning their lives around to pursue their Destiny life. I also am a performance coach to current and former Pros such as Rob Gronkowski and his brothers, Mike Williams, Corey Graham, Steve Means, Lazar Heyward, Doug Worthington, Naaman Roosevelt, Andre Ford, Jim Negred and Jeremy Kelley, just to name a few. I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the best athletes and celebrities in the world in their sport or profession. Superstars such as the fore mentioned and Abby Wambach, Carli Lloyd (Us Women’s National Soccer Team), The amazing Marta Silva (Brazilian National Team), Christine Sinclair (Canadian Women National Soccer Team), The Buffalo Bills and many more. I’ve hosted celebrity charity events and dinners with Tashard Choice, CJ Spiller and Eric Thomas and have done business ventures with Hall of Fame running back Thurman Thomas. These are some wonderful experiences and I will always treasure the memory of them. But God had more for me to do, more meaningful experiences in store for me.
I began moving in a ministry focused direction by presiding over chapel service for the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Eastern Michigan Football, the Buffalo Bills, and the New York Jets. But my dearest experiences have been Father God opening the door for me to travel the country with men such as Benny Hinn, Bishop Tommy Reid, and Bishop David Huskins as we ministered the kingdom of God to his people.
I can say humbly but with confidence in who the Lord has made me to be in becoming recognized as a thought leader in:
- Highly effective small group structures and discipleship training
- Destiny Life fulfillment process
- Strategies to overcome poverty
- Human motivation and inspiration
- Empowerment and leadership development
- Athletic Performance Enhancement
I am a coach by nature and passionate about instructing and empowering individual believers and non-believers into their God ordained greatness.
You have a new book, Mission Possible. Tell me about the title and what the reader can expect?
The title is a reflection of what we want our readers to know. Whatever it is that they are ordained to do, IT IS POSSIBLE! Hopelessness is the disease that is plaguing our communities, especially our urban communities. So the title is a hope builder. When we mention hope, we have in mind the God-kind of hope. Hope that must be developed before one can enter into the faith realm; the God-kind of hope that precedes the God-kind of faith in the order of living the abundant life. In 1 Corinthians 13:13, the order to living the Destiny life is revealed to us. It starts with love being declared the greatest, then it transitions to hope and it culminates with faith being the conclusion of the greatest of the three. If we follow the pattern given to us, this places hope before faith in the hierarchy of love, hope and faith. We are looking to build the hope of our readers with the title. It has been through our ministry experience that most hopeless people are that way because they have not heard in abundance that they can, they have only heard in abundance that they can’t. When Jesus encountered the woman that had been infirmed for 18 years, the very first thing he said to her was, “Woman you are loosed from thine infirmity”. The first phase of her deliverance was creating hope within her, by telling her something that she probably hadn’t heard the past eighteen years. With her hope being vibrant and strong Jesus then laid hands on her, she then had the strength to raise herself up from her condition. This is the same effect that we will have with the title, coupled with the content of the book.
Our readers can expect to be edified and educated, inspired and motivated, trained and empowered to complete their mission. We begin this process through what we call the “Jeremiah 1:5 Revelation”. In this verse of scripture, God revealed to Jeremiah that before he brought him through his parents, he was in an intimate conversation with him. In that dialog, there was some decision made pertaining to Jeremiah’s mission in the Earth. We believe Jeremiah is representative of all mankind. Every person on the planet came from the womb of God. Upon leaving Father’s womb we were given a part of his very own likeness and image, strength and power, gifting and grace in Christ Jesus. We also departed with an assignment. The complete remembrance of that assignment was lost in the transition from Fathers womb to the womb of our mothers but a residue of that mission is deep in the reservoirs of his innerman. As we have certain experiences while living, we innervate certain portions of the assignment. Awakening us to what it is we are supposed to do until we have the ultimate encounter with Holy Spirit and He then leads us and guides us into the whole truth (God’s reality ) for our life.
Is there such a thing as mission impossible?
Yes, there is such a thing as our missions being possible. Actually, this is the entire reason for Jesus coming into the Earth. In 2 Timothy it is revealed to us that Jesus saved us according to the purpose and grace given to us in Christ Jesus before the world began. The purpose speaks directly to our mission, and the grace (giftedness power) speaks to the power given to us to start and finish the mission we had in Christ before the foundation of the world. So before we even came through our parents we had a destiny. Hence, the Jeremiah 1:5 revelation. So a thousand times, YES, our mission is possible and Jesus even made sure that we would be without excuse by leaving us the very person that made it possible for him to finish his mission-that is none other than Holy Spirit. In 1 John14:18, Jesus said he would not leave us comfortless (as orphans, parentless, without nurture and guidance) so he restored to us Holy Spirit. Now Holy Spirit’s mission is to illuminate and lead us into the mission we have been assigned.
How do you use your experience as a football coach, father, etc. in your ministry?
First of all, Fathering, coaching and pastoring all place a demand on the fruit of the Spirit, which is love. Father God has made me know what love is, what it means to be loved in spite of and what it means to love in spite of. The nature of my ministry is discipleship and training through prophetic instruction. Therefore, I value the intimacy of relationships because without a certain level of intimacy you can’t have discipleship. Every branch of love is required when you are ministering the Gospel of the Kingdom of God to people. Over the past twenty years I’ve developed the fruit of Love to balance the Spiritual Giftedness that Holy Spirit has deposited within me.
The spiritual giftedness is the second characteristic that is a necessity for me to finish my mission. The Apostolic, prophetic, instructional giftedness have become the dominate gifting’s I’ve operated in over the last fifteen years of ministry. Each one manifesting in tune with the spirit and needful of the meeting. Fathering, coaching and mentoring are all one and the same to me. The experience that I have has carried over into the ministry. We believe true ministry is a matter of imparting into the hearers or learners and without a fathering spirit, you can’t effectively minister with impact. We need more fathers of souls and less teachers of the Bible.
What’s next for Demeris Johnson?
What I see happening over the next five years is the growth of every aspect of the ministry mission I have been given. I have a vision for my local area of having Destiny Life Discipleship Groups throughout the region. We believe that this will have an impact on the culture of our communities. I also have several more books that I’m currently writing. I love the challenge of writing! I’m working hard to perfect the skills of writing and creating content that will transform the lives of all that read our material and the continued perfection of the Destiny life analysis system that will bring a crystal-like clarity to individual’s ability to see what it is they have been ordained to do in the Earth. I’m also looking forward to traveling and ministering to the body of Christ.
