“I will delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10 NAS)
Those of us who love watching sports have an increased level of respect for the athletes who play hurt. They don’t provide excuses, nor do they complain about their injuries; they just do their duty. Do you remember Michael Jordan having the flu during the 1997 championship game? He scored thirty eight points that game and they eventually won the championship.
Similarly, Paul struggled with a thorn in his flesh and asked God to remove it, but God did not. Instead, God strengthened his resolve and Paul was empowered to play hurt. God said to Paul “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness. Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me” (2 Corinthians 12:9 NAS).
Well, this is not the time to be benched because of some pain, be it physical, emotional or social. Now is the time to play through our pain. Show the world that God is in us and we have God’s tenacity… “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” (Phil 4:13 NAS).
Lord, continue to remind me that I have your strength and determination to play even while hurt and in pain. Truth be told, I haven’t got time for the pain, because family and friends are counting on me to live, and without excuses and complaints. I will endure the hardship like a good soldier and continue to play hurt. Like Paul, “I will delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10). Amen.
