Are you willing to risk your long term DREAMS and GOALS to fulfill a short term WANT? I’m sure most of you are saying, “No way!” Think about this for a moment. How many small goals have we set for ourselves where we fell short? Lose just 5 more pounds–oh but I can afford to eat this late night ice cream, I worked hard. That late night turns into 2 or 3 more late night snacks and before you know it, you’ve gained back that 5 pounds plus 5 more. How many small goals do we set for ourselves and break, all to satisfy short term wants.
We have a problem in society today. We are obese with WANTS. We want everything fast and on our terms, and if it doesn’t happen we get frustrated, we quit! We are preoccupied with wants and not NEEDS. How much does your goal mean to you? If you fail to accomplish your goal, who does it affect? Really think about that for a moment. Actually do this exercise:
- Write down 3 goals you want to, or are working to complete.
- Write down 3 people (By Name & relation) that will benefit from your success.
- Everyday recite in the mirror, “If I don’t succeed, I’m letting _______ &________& _________ down. I must keep pushing, I must keep grinding, I must not give in to my WANTS, but focus on my GOALS. This isn’t about me.
I know it’s not easy to ignore the wants. I’m not perfect. I love cookies and ice cream. If I had my way I would eat them every night. It’s a struggle for me, but I’d rather not have a GUT. How can I be out of shape, speaking about discipline, and ignoring your wants, when I’m devouring cookies and ice cream daily. It’s bad for my health and my BRAND! I’m not saying I never have them, but I’ve developed DISCIPLINE and I eat them in moderation. Be disciplined, focus on your goals and remember who you’re doing this for. It’s not about you. If it was easy, everyone would do it. Until next time, make the rest of your life, the best of your life.
