Now that I’ve covered the main differences between raw and selvedge denim, I will make sure that I refer to my jeans correctly from here on out because I’ve definitely made that mistake in the past.
Moving forward, I wanted to switch gears with #Denim Week and bring back some good ol’ style inspiration to show how I wear my latest pair of selvage denim jeans.
Selvedge denim is definitely a higher quality and the price usually reflects it.
Fortunately, Uniqlo has been putting out tons of affordable selvedge denim jeans and surprisingly the quality has not been sacrificed. In fact, I bought 3 pairs (2 blues, and 1 black) and those are basically the only jeans I’ve been wearing this season!
If you’re shorter guy like myself, one thing you need to keep in mind is the length of your jeans. Pants that are too long can be unflattering and make you look even shorter, so buying the right size is essential.
Since I don’t like the “stacked” denim trend, I had to get this pair hemmed because they didn’t have my size (32×30). Luckily, Uniqlo has an in-house tailor that takes care of alterations if you purchase them in the store.
Style Tip: Most selvedge denim fits tight in the thigh area. Therefore, if you have bigger thighs but you still want that tapered look, try purchasing a “straight fit” (instead of skinny or slim) and just get your jeans tapered below the knee. I actually use this same method with my trousers as well!
As always, thanks for reading!
